Belarus, EU to discuss cooperation in environment

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Galina Volchuga will take part in the 5th round of Belarus-EU consultations on environmental cooperation which will be held in Brussels on 1 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the ministry. The European Commission's Environment Directorate-General invited the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus to take part in the negotiations. The 5th round of the consultations is expected to discuss a wide range of ecological issues of current importance such as prevention of air pollution, management of water recourses, evaluation of impact on the environment and implementation of agreements including the Aarhus Convention and the ESPOO Convention. The participants will also discuss the climate change, biodiversity preservation, environmental protection and waste usage. Much attention will be given to the EU contribution to the implementation of environmental projects in Belarus and Belarus’ participation in the EU programs. The cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership will be also considered.
