New format for Belarus’ traditional transport forum

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ traditional transport and logistics forum will be held in a new format this year, Pavel Bozhanov, Head of the Office for Developing Transport and Logistics of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry, told a press conference on 1 October, BelTA has learnt.

The forum has been held in Belarus six times. This year it will be transformed into the Belarusian Transport Week. “With a view to changing the format of the forum, an instruction was given by the government to set up an organizing committee to conduct the Belarusian Transport Week. The committee will be led by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin,” Pavel Bozhanov said. The plan of the Belarusian Transport Week was adopted at a session of the organizing committee. The plan features international exhibitions “Transport and Logistics”, “Logistic engineering”, the Belarusian Transport and Logistics Congress, an international railway business forum “Strategic partnership 1520: Central and Eastern Europe”, a session of the CIS transport coordinating board.

“The relevance of these events is attributed to an increasing role of transport logistics in the economy, as logistics facilitates the development of other economic sectors,” Pavel Bozhanov said. He noted that this is particularly relevant for Belarus, because the country is located at the crossroads of major transport corridors. Pavel Bozhanov underlined the importance of the Belarusian Transport and Logistics Congress that will bring together representatives of the transport and communications ministries, trade ministries, the State Customs Committee, Belarusian Railways, transport associations, as well as foreign experts. The participants of the congress will discuss ways to promote international corridors passing via the territory of our country, to develop logistics infrastructure and the market of logistics services. “Unlike the previous events, this year’s congress will focus on informal communication instead of presentation of reports. A moderator will suggest topics for discussion and participants will communicate their views,” the specialist noted.

Pavel Bozhanov also mentioned the international project Amber Coast Logistics initiated by the Port of Hamburg. The results of the project will be presented at a special seminar and conferences. The project involved 19 organizations from Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Denmark and Belarus.
