Working group on Belarusian construction industry problems urged to work harder

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – The effectiveness of the operation of the working group set up to deal with problems of the Belarusian civil engineering industry should be better. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made the statement on 23 July as he heard out a report on the working group’s performance from Head of the Belarus President Administration Andrei Kobyakov, Chairman of the State Control Committee Alexander Yakobson, and Chairman of the State Security Committee Valery Vakulchik, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

Alexander Lukashenko reminded the group had been instructed to determine underlying problems of the construction industry and put things in order. “We have agreed that problems will be dealt with as soon as they are revealed. In a radical manner. Because this problem is already off the scale. People are extremely dissatisfied, particularly those having their homes built and they lodge justified complaints. They complain to all the government agencies. It is inadmissible, abnormal when the commission is working,” said the President.

“If you see a problem, deal with it. Starting with a specific house, which is not being built or which construction is delayed due to the fault of the construction company or the development company, and ending with solutions at the legislative level if they are necessary,” stressed the head of state.

The performance of the working group is constantly monitored by the President. “To tell you the truth, I am not entirely pleased with the performance of the working group. I may be mistaken, I may not see everything,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.

The President said he wanted the group to work harder, more effectively, and to be more demanding with regard to executives and civil servants. “If you see an appeal of a group of our citizens in mass media or you hear about something on your own, investigate it immediately. If someone fails to correct their errors, law enforcement agencies have been given relevant instructions: handcuffs and prison time. Then they will have time to think how they should work with people,” said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko warned that the monitoring of civil engineering industry problems is just the beginning. “We will examine the entire country, all the issues that people are worried about starting with construction industry and ending with pricing practices. We have to take radical measures if some fail to take a hint voiced in a simple, understandable and calm manner,” stressed the head of state.
