Events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of
Internationalist Soldiers were held in Beshenkovichi
Today is 35 years since the withdrawal of Soviet
troops from Afghanistan. 79 natives and residents of our region passed along
its military roads. 14 of them were awarded medals and orders. Two did not
return home alive - Alexander Sukhval and Dmitry Gaidukov.
On the eve of the Day of Remembrance of
Internationalist Soldiers, members of the district organization of Belarusian
Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan visited 14 graves of comrades who
had already passed away in peacetime. And today, like many years in a row, in
the morning they went with flowers to Lug village, where, they know, the mother
of a soldier who died in the war, Rosa Sukhval, is waiting for them. The
military commissar of Beshenkovichi and Shumilino districts, Andrei Savich, expressed
gratitude to Rosa Sukhval for her son and presented the anniversary medal “35
years of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.”
Svetlana Gaiko, head of the department of
ideological work and youth affairs of the district executive committee, a
member of the district organization, handed over material assistance from the
RPO “Belaya Rus” to R. Sukhval.
Veterans of the Afghan War visited the cemetery
where Alexander lies, laid flowers on his grave, and honored the memory of
their fellow countryman with a minute of silence.
At noon, a rally dedicated to the 35th
anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan took place in
Beshenkovichi.
Representatives of authorities, public
associations, institutions and enterprises of the district, and school students
came to the memorial sign to fellow countrymen who performed their
international duty in Afghanistan, along with veterans of the Afghan war.
The event was attended by the chief clerk of
Vitebsk regional executive committee, Igor Kuznetsov, the chairman of the
regional executive committee, Galina Unukovich, and her deputies, the chairman
of the district Council of Deputies, Gennady Shvedov, and the military
commissar of Beshenkovichi and Shumilino districts, Andrei Savich.
Soviet troops fulfilled their duty in
Afghanistan with honor; for almost 10 years they held back the sprouts of
international terrorism rushing beyond the borders of Afghanistan. Gratitude to
the internationalist soldiers for their heroic past and worthy present was
expressed by the head of the district Galina Unukovich, the military commissar
of Beshenkovichi and Shumilino districts Andrei Savich and the chairman of the
district organization of Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan
Valery Safonov.
Beshenkovichi land carefully preserves the
memory of those who did not return home, who fulfilled their military duty with
honor.
The memory of those who died and departed in
peacetime was honored with a minute of silence. Wreaths and flowers were laid
at the memorial sign.
At the military commissariat of Beshenkovichi
district, a solemn ceremony of awarding participants in combat operations in
Afghanistan took place.
Those who, as part of a limited contingent of
troops, fulfilled their duty with honor and dignity, gathered in the assembly
hall of the district military registration and enlistment office.
Military commissar of Beshenkovichi and
Shumilino districts Andrei Savich thanked the internationalist soldiers for
their great contribution to the patriotic education of the younger generation
and presented them with anniversary medals “35 years of the withdrawal of
Soviet troops from Afghanistan.”
