From October 8 to 20, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate is conducting a set of preventive measures aimed at preventing road accidents

WHO WILL BE PAID SPECIAL ATTENTION

During these days, traffic police officers will conduct extensive information and explanatory work on the main risks and threats to safety, as well as on the rules for participating in road traffic on bicycles and modern vehicles.

As part of daily traffic supervision and during raids, special attention will be paid to compliance with traffic regulations by these categories of participants, as well as to drivers in terms of giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists.

With the onset of the autumn season, road accidents involving cyclists occur quite frequently.

CLEAR KNOWLEDGE AND OBSERVANCE OF TRAFFIC RULES BY CYCLISTS IS MANDATORY

Cycling is permitted on the curb, sidewalk or pedestrian path. In the absence of the specified road elements or the impossibility of movement on them, cyclists are allowed to move along the roadway in one row no further than 1 meter from its right edge. The bicycle must be technically sound and equipped with reflectors.

A cyclist must cross the roadway at a pedestrian crossing, at an intersection along the line of sidewalks or curbs, without creating obstacles for pedestrians, and he has the right not to dismount. However, when approaching an intersection with a roadway, a cyclist must reduce the speed of movement in advance and, having made sure that it is safe to enter the road, cross it at the speed of a walking pedestrian.

SPECIAL ATTENTION TO YOUNG CYCLISTS

They are only allowed to ride a bicycle on the road singly from 14. Unfortunately, children often ride bicycles unsupervised wherever they want. Any lack of parental control over children on the road is fraught with disastrous consequences.

On roads close to villages, local residents actively participate in traffic, for whom the main means of transportation is a bicycle. Therefore, when driving on highways near populated areas, it is important for drivers to be especially careful. When meeting cyclists on a country road, it is best to reduce speed to a minimum and be extremely careful when passing them. After all, any unforeseen situation on the road can turn into a tragedy.

ABOUT INDIVIDUAL MOBILITY MEANS

Recently, road users have begun to actively use modern means of personal mobility. These are devices or appliances that are not vehicles, powered by an engine and intended for individual or shared (if there are specially equipped seats) use by pedestrians. These include: electric scooters, hoverboards, segways, unicycles and other similar means of transportation.

Some models are very dynamic, and as a result, they may pose a threat to the safety of passers-by.

To avoid accidents and other unpleasant situations on the road, before using such transport, it is necessary to study the rules for its safe operation:

  • it is permitted to move on such devices on sidewalks, pedestrian paths or curb without creating obstacles for the movement of other pedestrians;
  • before crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing, you must stop and make sure that it is safe to enter (exit) the road, only after that can you cross the roadway at the speed of a walking pedestrian;
  • you must move at a speed to stop safely if an obstacle appears on the road, without resorting to emergency braking, while the speed should not exceed 25 km/h;
  • it is prohibited to transport passengers outside of specially equipped seating areas, not to hold the steering wheel;
  • persons under 14 are not allowed to use the IMM (except in pedestrian and residential areas);
  • it is prohibited to drive while intoxicated or feeling unwell;
  • use a helmet and other protective outfit;
  • when driving near shopping facilities and bus stops, reduce your speed and be prepared for people to suddenly appear;
  • avoid looking at gadgets while driving, keep a safe distance from other road users;
  • in the dark and in poor visibility it is necessary to mark yourself with reflective elements, and the device must be equipped with a headlight (lantern) for timely detection of obstacles to movement.

Save yourself and respect other road users. And remember: compliance with the main law of the road – the Traffic Rules – remains the main condition of safety.
